[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]
Name: Karkat Vantas
Age: 15 (about 7 sweeps)
Gender: Male
Canon: Homestuck
Background:
here!
Timeline: Up to date with canon. (Right after his conversation with Dave and Terezi
Personality:
Karkat first appeared in Homestuck as a constantly angry troll that was harassing and irritating the human kids. Karkat types in all caps, and does have a tendency to create some rather creative ways to insult the person he’s talking to. It takes him a very long time to befriend the kids simply because he’s been so rude to them, and they in turn tried to have nothing to do with him. However, it becomes increasingly obvious that Karkat is all bark and no bite.
He’s also a major sap, and he has a passion for romantic films and literature, especially romantic comedies. Other trolls, including Eridan and Tavros have come to Karkat for advice on the subject of romance, although, ironically, Karkat himself has had terrible luck. Both his relationship with Terezi Pyrope (flushed) and his pale relationship with Gamzee end in failure. He’s shown to be a skilled fighter, although he doesn’t have access to any game powers as of yet, unlike the other players which severely limits his abilities.
Yet, although he enjoys fighting, he is one of the few trolls not responsible for murder, and he’s also been known to choose a more pacifistic approach to dangerous situations, as displayed in his subduing of Gamzee. He is also a unique fighter because he did not rely on his game given powers in battle, and in fact, still has no idea what they are.
Karkat, behind all the insults and his sometimes ridiculous nature, is actually very intelligent. If you’re able to sift through all the insults, Karkat actually tends to have pretty good advice, and he has a lot to say beyond swear words. He was the leader of the troll’s session of Sburb (which they call Sgrub,) and numerous trolls have stated Karkat’s effectiveness as a leader. According to Vriska, “When it comes down to it, he was pro8a8ly too good a leader!” Karkat managed to combat the troll’s natural violent tendencies and get them all safely through Sgrub, which may have actually hurt the trolls in the long run, because only Vriska and Aradia were able to obtain God Tier, and Aradia did so after the game had concluded.
Karkat was very ambitious when he was first introduced, and took his position as leader very seriously. He got very irritated when his instructions weren’t being followed, and was known to write memos and give long speeches to his team. He declared himself a “hatched leader” and is certain he is destined for greatness. He aspires to be a threshecutioner, warriors who fight with sickles, and as such, often practices with his sickle before entering the game; although he admits that he looks sort of stupid flailing around with it. Over the course of the game, he’s realized that leadership is much harder than he had originally thought, and seems content to stay out of the way and let others take the lead, at least for the moment.
A problem Karkat has is a tendency to get really worked up very easily. He is shown pounding at his keyboard more than once, even when talking to his best friends, and he ends up in tears numerous times throughout the story, although not without reason. Karkat can also get overwhelmed, and at one point actually has a mental breakdown because he mistakenly believes that he will have to witness troll/human “sloppy makeouts”. He tends to make some faulty decisions, such as sending Equius, a troll obsessed with the hemospectrum, to kill Gamzee, a troll of a higher blood caste.
Another one of Karkat’s major problems is that he has a great deal of self-hatred. He is a mutant in troll society because he has red blood, and thus, he had to be extremely careful to conceal his blood color lest he be killed. As a result, he does not believe in his self-worth, and is constantly trying to cover up his insecurities with all caps text and insults. This also causes him to type in gray instead of his blood color, and to be wary of any attack that might spill blood. He was worried about telling his team mates what his blood color was for fear that they would reject him as leader. All of his team mates are now aware of his blood color, but it’s still a fairly sensitive topic for him.
Karkat also has a lot of self-loathing tendencies. He ultimately blames himself for the troll’s session of Sburb’s failure, and for the deaths of his team mates and their lusii (the troll’s caretakers, monsters that in Alternian society played a role similar to the ones parents play on Earth). He hates himself so much, that he once played around with the idea of being his own kismesis, or “fated nemesis.” He made no secret of the fact that he hates himself either. One of the passwords Jade exchanges with Karkat is “If I hate myself so much, why don’t I hate marry myself?”
Lately, Karkat has been worn down and worn out. He feels as if he has lost his purpose, and that he was a terrible leader. He also feels that his close relationships are collapsing. Both of his exes, Terezi and Gamzee, have entered a “secret” blackrom together, and kept it from Karkat because they were worried about his reaction. Not only is he is aware of their relationship, he’s also been worrying about Terezi, who has become addicting to Gamzee’s sugary drinks and is in no way ready for the battle to come. Karkat’s becoming more and more prone to disappear into himself as a result, hiding himself from the others in locked rooms in the Meenahbound flashes, and even though he has developed a close friendship with Dave, he is worried that even this relationship will dissolve when Dave is reunited with John and Jade, his “original” best friends.
Why is your character a good fit for the setting of Soul Campaign, and what will they do once they are in the game?
Karkat has a strong desire to know everything about a situation, especially one that could be life-threatening for him or for his friends. He's also got experience on the battlefield (although the switch from using a weapon to being the weapon will throw him at first.) His strong desier to keep his friends safe and his experience in battle, especially his experience leading others into battle will make him a usefull asset for Death City. He will start out being a little cautious and very much opposed to fighting in a war he knows little about instead of the one he's supposed to be preparing for. However, with some encouragement and/or seeing friends in dangerous situations, Karkat will turn around and start taking helping Death City seriously.
List the abilities your character will still have in Soul Campaign:
Leadership Ability-Karkat used to consider himself to be a "hatched leader," but really, although his ambitious and determined personality traits do play a large role in his sucess as leader, it's also his experience with leading his friends in some really adverse situations and dealing with a lot of crises that have made him a more skilled leader. At this point in canon, Karkat's beginning to seriously question his skills as a leader, which have caused him to realize how difficult the position actually is. This will mean he'll be a little reluctant to be a leader again, but he will, if it comes it to it, because he's good at what he does.
Fighting Prowress- Again some of this comes naturally from being a troll. He's got great night vision and greater strength then a human (although he certainly isn't the strongest by troll standards). This skill also came from growing up in a violent society where he could be killed if he spilled even a drop of blood, and later fighting powerful enemies in the game.
Both his leadership ability and his fighting prowess contribute to his ability to be strategic and to decide whether to be offense or defensive. Although he's a strong fighter, being passive has also served him well.
List the weaknesses your character will gain (or lose) in Soul Campaign:
The weakness Karkat will gain is the loss of his sylladex, and tehrefore, his ability to carry many items on his person at one time.
[ WEAPON ]
Soul Description:
Compassionate, Self-Loathing, Passionate, Romantic, Determined, and Emotional.
Karkat’s soul is bright red and it is constantly in motion. It has his two horns and his spikey mess of hair. It is often scowling.
(Weapon Form) / Ability:
Karkat will transform into a sickle with a steel blade and a black handle. The size is the same as the sickle depicted here. Karkat's special ability occurs when his resonance level with his partner increases. He's able to heat up his blade until it reaches red hot levels (the level of heat depends on the resonance rate), thereby allowing him to seriously burn his opponents. The heat from his blade also only causes injury to an enemy. If his meister was to touch his blade while it's heating up, it will not cause them any damage.

First-Person
AND ONCE AGAIN, THE UNIVERSE DOES IT'S BEST TO SHIT ALL OVER ME.
OF COURSE IT'S OF NO FUCKING IMPORTANCE THAT I ACTUALLY HAVE IMPORTANT SHIT TO TAKE CARE BACK IN THE VEIL.
APPARENTLY, THIS PLACE IS IMPORTANT ENOUGH THAT EVERYTHING IS PUT ON HOLD.IT DOESN'T MATTER I'M ALREADY FIGHTING A WAR AND ALSO FOR MY LIFE BACK WHERE I'M SUPPOSED TO BE RIGHT NOW.
NO, I'M SUPPOSED TO STAY HERE AND FIGHT IN THEIR WAR, WHICH I COULD GIVE TWO SHITS ABOUT!
WONDERFUL.
OKAY, BULGESNIFFERS, LISTEN UP. NORMALLY, HERE'S WHERE I'D GO ON A COMPLETELY POINTLESS RANT ABOUT HOW THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT HAPPENING AND I'M KIND OF BUSY BACK HOME, WHICH I GUESS I ALREADY DID, BUT I'M GOING TO SPARE YOUR OCULAR ORBS THE HORROR OF THE FULL VERSION BECAUSE I'M NICE LIKE THAT.
IT'S FINE.
KEEP ME HERE I DON'T CARE.
IT'S NOT LIKE ANYONE WILL ACTUALLY MISS ME THAT MUCH.
IN FACT, THIS IS PROBABLY FOR THE BEST.
IF ANY ASSHOLES ARE HERE THEY I ACTUALLY KNOW AND I CONSIDER TOLERABLE, I WOULD REALLY FUCKING APPRECIATE IF YOU CRAWLED OUT OF YOUR SHAMEFUL CRAPSACK HOLES RIGHT ABOUT NOW BEFORE I EMBARRASS MYSELF TOO HORRIBLE FLOUNDERING AROUND IN THIS CESSPOOL OF STUPIDITY APPARENTLY CALLED DEATH CITY.
IF THERE ARE ANY PEOPLE HERE WHO ARE SANE, RATIONAL, AND CONSIDER THEMSELVES TO BE FAIRLY TOLERABLE, YOU'RE FUCKING WRONG, BUT TRY AND TALK TO ME ANYWAY. I NEED SOME ANSWERS THAT ACTUALLY MAKE SENSE.
Third-Person
One second Karkat had been tossing a chair and talking to Dave and Terezi, and the next, it's gotten significantly darker, and there's no sign of either of his friends. Nothing in this room looks familiar, and although it's impossible for him to have left the Veil, this room doesn't look anything like the rooms he's accustomed to in their meteor hideout. For some reason, his crab communicator is missing from his wrist, and his sylladex, and everything in it, including his weapon, have disappeared too. He's completely defenseless. He doesn't like being defenseless at all.
He's immediately cautious, and it takes a great deal of staring at the statues and looking for hidden traps before he starts to approach. Just as he's reaching out to touch one, the T.V. flickers on, and he jumps. He whirls towards the sound, embarrassed and startled. Dammit, it's just a screen, not an enemy. He really needs to stop being so high strung, but he can't fucking help it.
The more he listens to what the man on the screen has to say, the more irritated Karkat gets. He doesn't give a shit about this guy and his problems. His friends are soon to be fighting for their lives back home, and if he's going to fight in a war, he's going to fight in one where his friends' lives are at stake, not in a war he practically knows nothing about. Apparently, has no choice about the matter, though, which has him clenching his fists and pacing. For fuck's sake, he doesn't have time to wait around here until their stupid war is over. He needs to go back to the Veil now!
He’s not really listening to any of the shit about special powers or weapons or whatever. He’s too busy cursing his life and trying to think of a way to get out of this. That’s when he hears Spirit say something interesting. There are other people here that have been brought here against their will. This means information, this means people who will want to get out of here as badly as he does and might be willing to cooperate. Most importantly, though, it means there’s a slim chance that his friends are here too. As soon as he’s given his communicator, he knows exactly what he’s doing with it.
